Maldives : Port Health Information

Maldives is a place free of many problematic diseases, and public health is a major priority on the national and international level. All of the Ports of Entry are maintained with a rigorous level of vigilance for both sea and air arrivals. Surveillance of any potentially disease introducing events or activities is an ongoing program, and food items, animals, and passengers are all screened accordingly.

Currently the nation is preparing for official certification of a “Malaria Free Maldives” and this has created a new level of screening for all passengers arriving from Malaria-infected locations. Additionally all cargo and passenger aircrafts are mandatorily disinfected when they originate from areas where Yellow Fever and Malaria are endemic as well.

The retention of the Certification of Sanitary Port means that a well-staffed and heavily equipped medical service is at work 24-hours a day to deliver embarking and disembarking travelers in air and sea ports with any standard or emergency care they may require.
